Replace the text with the file's text#

POST /api/v1/documents/{id}/extract · Operation ID: extractText

Purpose and app behavior#

This replaces editable text with extraction from the original file. Preserve any user edits and use If-Match. Do not equate an accepted file type with OCR support: HEIC and multi-page scans fail this extraction path; offer manual correction.
Plain text and Markdown are copied; .docx paragraphs; PDFs with a text layer (up to 500 pages); images and single-page scanned PDFs by text recognition (up to 10 MB). HEIC and multi-page scans: 422 unreadable_file.

Authentication#

Bearer token with documents:write. Resource access and effective policy still apply.

Example request#

Replace all REPLACE_* placeholders and environment values with data for your authorized test account. Use a new UUID in IDEMPOTENCY_KEY for each logical action where shown; use the actual latest revision for If-Match. Examples of writes change real data if run.
